in benghazi. that is where we begin. i'm bill hemmer. good morning to "america's newsroom.". martha: good morning, everybody. i'm martha maccallum. there are still really a lot of unanswered questions. it is still unclear what the libyan government is doing to bring those killers to justice. president obama yesterday telling the u.n. assembly that america will get to the bottom of the murders of chris stevens and the others. >> the attack on civilians in benghazi were attacks on america. there should be no doubt we will be relentless tracking down the killers and bringing them tobill: how possit while order in libya is still unknown? we want to begin our coverage now. greg palkot streaming live out of tripoli. what is the latest on this militia crackdown there, greg? >> reporter: bill, martha, we're getting mixed signals about that. we were just talking to our contact in benghazi. he said one of the key militias in that city is it falling into line with the government. we've been out and about here in tripoli. we visited one compound where militias were driven out by libyan security force

in benghazi, was an act of terrorism. do you agree? >> sure. i mean, it's a civilian target, it's an embassy, it's protected by international law. it absolutely is an act of terrorism. >> was there any al qaeda connection, either by an affiliate or by an organization that inspired by al qaeda, do you believe there was some sort of al qaeda connection to what happened in benghazi? >> i mean, i think that is obviously the fbi is investigating. my guess is there's no formal al qaeda connection. there are groups that are supporters, it's a shadowy group of people. they might have had some historical connections to al qaeda in the past. certainly the leader of al qaeda talked about the recent death of a kind of key al qaeda libyan leader just before this event, there might be some kind of connection. but i think it's pretty early to be making any definitive conclusio conclusions. the libyans have arrested some people. there is an interview with a libyan official who says this seems to be a deliberate attack, because not only did they attack a consulate, they also attacked a safe house. it implies

the segment, showing about mitt rim's comments on the attacks in benghazi and cairo were terrible. i think it's a wash. >> but it's moved beyond mitt romney's statements none attack. it's gone in part to the administration's hard-to-believe story that all this violence was sparked by the movie and the movie alone and now i think the issues are what really happened in benghazi. we still don't know exactly what happened. was it preplanned? and then the spread to the other countries. >> the longer this goes on, the more it becomes about the president's responsibility and the less it becomes about mitt romney's initial reaction to it. >> but his foreign policy has not been a predominant issue in a lot of these races and with the economy as sluggish as it is, you wouldn't think this would trump everything. >> world events have a way of disrupting elections at times and no one saw this becoming as a predominant issue in the campaign. >> obama had a lot of strong points on foreign policy, he had a pretty nice list of thing and pretty close with afghanistan but the arab spring was always that was som
